On 19 Jan 01, thanks to Bro. Nellie
Newcombe (Natl Sec, et al), we supported the Inauguration of President
George W. Bush. Nellie was contacted and asked to provide a Color
Guard and escort for the arrival and delivery of the St. John's Lodge No.
1 Washington Bible. Our Natl Pres, Bro. Chuck McNoldy, appointed OD
#364's BOL Chair, Bro. Larry Lisle, and me to "get it
together." I relinquished to Bro. Larry to avoid
confounding. Ultimately, our Natl Pres and 8 others met the
request. I requested and was permitted by Bro. Chuck to represent
you. The Color Guard was composed of Bro. Larry Lisle/American Flag,
Bro. Grant Graessle/Bennington Flag, MW Bro. Monty Quick/Natl Sojo Flag ~
all OD #364. Escorts were WBro. Chuck/Natl Pres/#44, Bro. Bill
Turner/Natl Cmdr Rep/#3, Bro. Bob Jones/Pres #44, Emeritus Bro. Scotty
Cameron/#364, Bro. Harry Sanders/#364, and Bro. Mark Arbeen/#364. We
were roundly thanked by the St. John's Lodge contingent, which included
the current Master, WBro. Paul Magnotta, Chairman of the Bible Committee,
WBro. Jules Garfunkel, St. John's Lodge Secretary, Very WBro. John
Mountain, and MOC (NY) & Masonic Liaison to Congress, Rt. WBro.
Benjamin Gilman. Media coverage included ABC and NBC news from the
networks, and the Washington Post. Today's Post didn't give us much
coverage ... there was a picture of several Heroes feet, while the picture
intended to capture the Bible in its case. The narrative didn't do
much for us either, but we were mentioned. Conversations and
pictures with passersby were plentiful. MSA and the Shrine were also
present. |
